I've heard this paraphrased a few times and it's generally in reference to modern MMA being dominant or better than traditional martial arts or not being of value to society. I've never had someone tell me martial arts itself is dead, I find that hilarious to think about. Either way, I disagree that martial arts is dead or has any dead value. UFC, Pride Fighting and K-1, just to name a few are booming industries. There was even the recently released Karate Kid 2010 movie featuring different styles of kung fu.

Interestingly, whenever I've been told this dribble, I always asked if they trained. Every single time the answer was either no or they played online MA games.

If anything the popularity of MMA has helped traditional MA. Our dojo is full of people studying kempo, kickboxing, bJJ and Yoshitsune JJ. One supports the other.

As MA has moved through history there has always been a blend of old and new. MMA is just our generations new, which is really nothing but a blend and retooling of the old. Kempo was in that roll before MMA.

If someone said that MA is dying what they're seeing is traditional attitudes threatened by the bad apples in MMA (I know a lot of great people that fight MMA.) As we all know, traditional MA is still strong and perpetuating strong character, discipline and positive attitudes. MMA is focused on a successful fight in the cage. Traditional MA are still squarely focused on good people.

The mission of my blog is to explore the connection between the skills learned in the dojo as a student of the martial arts and the skills that lead to a successful life. https://www.lifeskillsfromthedojo.com

People probably say it because it isn't you can make money from unless you are a MA actor

Alot of your life unless certain situations you are never going to use which is good, you don't want a GBH charge especially if you are looking for work!

But along MA runs through your veins and you belief in it like I do then that is all that matters
