sensei8 Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Type of MA Instructor that I want:>One whose instructions challenge me>One who sees my value beyond rank/moneyI've started by listing two...your turn... **Proof is on the floor!!!
Dobbersky Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 > One who asks questions and answers questions> One who is always learning and doesn't consider themselves an expert> One who works with the techniques and will amend or replace them if they know that it doesn't actually work "Challenge is a Dragon with a Gift in its mouth....Tame the Dragon and the Gift is Yours....." bushido_man96 Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 One who can see that everyone learns a bit differently, and can adjust to teach differently. One who is not afraid to suggest other MAs to augment what I already know. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
still kicking Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 The first thing that comes to mind... an instructor who can recognize and help me build on my strengths, and also help me develop ways to compensate for my weaknesses.

Dobbersky Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 One who works to make their students able to become even better than they are.I had this conversation with my students on Thursday "Challenge is a Dragon with a Gift in its mouth....Tame the Dragon and the Gift is Yours....." Noela Evans (author)
JusticeZero Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 One who works to make their students able to become even better than they are.I had this conversation with my students on Thursdayyes, i've seen entirely too many instructors who were hamstrung by the need to hold back the best stuff in order to be able to continue to dominate any of their students.I want to give my students the good stuff so that if they put in the work, they will be able to stomp me flat at will, because I know that I do pretty well compared to others outside of my school. in the end, I will not achieve greatness because I can whoop it up like Jackie Chan, I will achieve greatness because everyone sees my students flattening all comers. I can't have it both ways; if I can beat all my students, it means there are a lot of others who can beat my students too; if I teach my students to be awesome, I must by definition teach them to be able to beat me in the process. Alas, too many teachers can't let go and accept that. "Anything worth doing is worth doing badly." - Baleia
