vantheman Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Hello Everyone, This is my first post here and I figured this would fit in well with the weapons section. My dojo recently has been focusing on how household items can be used as improvised weapons. We used things like textbooks, rolled up magazines belts, and coffee. Does anyone else have any ideas for objects that could used or anything else to add? -VTM Van
JusticeZero Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Bicycle U-locks, keys, jacket are likely to be on hand. You might also explore the possibilities of a plastic bag. "Anything worth doing is worth doing badly." - Baleia
MasterPain Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Almost anything in a toolbox, the toolbox itself, broom, flashlight, large rocks, a lamp, vacuum cleaner, dumbells, candlestick, umbrella, bicycle, car, truck, fingernail file, chopsticks, shopping cart, golf club, golf balls, tennis racket, motorcycle helmet, shoelaces, dog leash, a poodle, canned food, tent stakes, wasp killing spray, chairs, barstool, incense burner, a fork.Of course, a legal concealed handgun or easily deployable folding knife would be better in most cases. Montana Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Just looking around my computer room I see a can of pc cleaner anda Mr Clean sprayer, pens/pencils, cell phone, couple of rifles, some wood flooring boards (I'm putting in wood floors in most of the house due to my wifes allergies), coats, books, flashlight, calculator, briefcase, pictures hanging on the wall, wall clock, cd/dvd's, tape dispenser...oh yeah, and two 80+ lb black labs that will lick and attacker to death! That's just in this room.In the kitchen iof course are knives and various other weapons of mayhem.Get the idea? Just about ANYTHING can be used as a weapon. vantheman Posted April 18, 2012 Author Posted April 18, 2012 (edited) Yeah, I heard (but have not verified) that MagLites were actually considered a weapon by the police in my area after an employee (a janitor I guess) at a criminal/mental facility had to use it to defend himself against an attacking patient. I also have thought about carrying around one of those really small thin LED flashlights on my keychain. It could be used as a blinding agent and could also be used to attack the eye if necessary. Thanks for all of the suggestions so far.-VTM Edited April 18, 2012 by vantheman Van

Liver Punch Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Ooooh, I love this game. I'm currently sitting in the office of a "secure" correctional facility where "nothing that can be used as a weapon is allowed."Within arms reach of me are: six ink pens, six highlighters, one pencil, a telephone receiver, a computer mouse, keyboard and monitor, a newspaper, paperclips, a stapler, tape dispenser, metal hole punch, and a heavy book.Within this 8' x 10' office lies: a microwave, a pot of hot coffee, metal desk organizers, a meter stick, a container of coffee, sugar, salt, and pepper dispensers, garbage bags, 2 plastic milk crates, a heavy framed map, 3 removable steel plates that cover the water shutoffs for adjacent bathrooms, metal dividers inside of the refrigerator, two frozen ice packs in the freezer, a radio with a long antenna, and the room is lit by 9 short florescent light tubes. I could deploy most of those things in less than 5 seconds and any of them in under 30 seconds. If you've got time to improvise, your options increase exponentially. As for flashlights being a weapon, I'm sure that context (as always) applies heavily. If you're carrying a flashlight in your car and its stored on the floor, trunk, glove box, etc. that seems legitimate. If you're carrying it in your lap on in your hand while you drive around harassing people, that's another story. If you have it on your person at night and you're walking around your home or property, or some other place you have a legitimate reason to have a flashlight - that's probably going to be alright. If you're in the bar at 3 in the afternoon getting into fights with a 3 feet long flashlight, then the arresting officer will probably deem it to be a weapon. "A gun is a tool. Zaine Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 My teacher always told us that if it was light enough to swing around then we could use it as a weapon. He had to make that distinction after we asked if such things as couches, televisions and ovens could be used. vantheman Posted April 18, 2012 Author Posted April 18, 2012 Yeah, I don't think ovens could work... You know unless it was a brick oven filled with fire big enough to fit an attacker through... In other news, after looking at some of these posts, my laptop charger is looking more and more like a Suruchin.-VTM Van
