kenpo4life Posted October 15, 2002 Posted October 15, 2002 Three60, It is widely accepted the rolls was in fact THE best of the Gracies. There is a saying in the gracie family, that there was jj before Rolls and then bjj after. Rolls was the bridge between the old plodding bjj and the newer dynamic stuff. If you dont believe me ask Ralph, or royler, or renzo, because I have. Rolls x-trained in wrestling and sambo both. he is the reason that bjj is so refined. He tapped Rickson a lot, and was reportedly the last to easily due so. chh. All jj is jj. The gracies have refined some of the methods of the old school judo, before it got Olympic and commercial. If you think that the gracies have invented anything new, check out the old judo text. Omo-patas, the guard, it is all in there. Try "Grappling in action" by a game named kuzo. Or best judo, it all has what most would call bjj. Kosen judo is really what it is in my opinion. or, as a bjj bb told me once" It is old school judo with a vale tudo component." Hope that helps....... If my survival means your total destruction, then so be it.
jiu-jitsu fighter Posted January 2, 2003 Posted January 2, 2003 ITS AN AMAZING STAND UP AND GROUND FIGHTING ART AND IF YOU TRAIN IN KICKBOXING OR JKD OR WHATEVER IT IS AN AMAZING SELF DEFENSE BECAUSE IT USES ALOT OF JUDO'S THROWS AND WHEN YOU HAVE THE GUY ON THE GROUND YOU CAN SET HIM UP FOR ALL SORTS OF STRIKES, HEY IM MATT ,NEW TO THIS FORUM, IM CANADIAN SO DON'T MIND ME "When we go to the ground, you are in my world, the ground is the ocean, I am the shark, and most people don't even know how to swim"
jiu-jitsu fighter Posted January 6, 2003 Posted January 6, 2003 why does evryone doubt the effectiveness of bjj against multiple attackers, if you guys didn't know its got reditrection techniqes and throws like in aikido( at higher levels) also it has some great counter striking measures, i've seen some bjj self-defense stuff, its completely different from what you guys have probably seen , technique and theory, by renzo and royler gracie , check it out and bjj is derived from judo and jujitsu, "When we go to the ground, you are in my world, the ground is the ocean, I am the shark, and most people don't even know how to swim"
Venezolano Posted January 7, 2003 Posted January 7, 2003 i think that all that about facing multiple attackers is bs, if you almost always get complicated with one person, with "multiple" attackers ..... ... Valencia - Venezuela.
jiu-jitsu fighter Posted January 7, 2003 Posted January 7, 2003 what complicated , do you understand what bjj is, you think that you think that getting entangled with your opponent is bad, but theres other things to do like theres plenty of throws and sweeps from standing and theres counters to strikes, "When we go to the ground, you are in my world, the ground is the ocean, I am the shark, and most people don't even know how to swim"
Venezolano Posted January 7, 2003 Posted January 7, 2003 IMHO i think that is bs Valencia - Venezuela.
jiu-jitsu fighter Posted January 7, 2003 Posted January 7, 2003 its been proven unlike tkd and karate , "When we go to the ground, you are in my world, the ground is the ocean, I am the shark, and most people don't even know how to swim"
Kyle-san Posted January 8, 2003 Posted January 8, 2003 I've seen more effective multiple attacker demonstrations from Karate and TKD then from BJJ.
Venezolano Posted January 8, 2003 Posted January 8, 2003 oh yes? where? in a exihibition? i'll love to see it in a real situation KIAI!!!! LOL! Valencia - Venezuela.
Kyle-san Posted January 8, 2003 Posted January 8, 2003 oh yes? where? in a exihibition? i'll love to see it in a real situation KIAI!!!! LOL! I've honestly seen "real situations" where a karate practitioner had fewer problems with multiple opponents than a BJJ practitioner. Of course, it might have just been the situation and not the styles, but that's the evidence I've seen. I'm going to assume that since you're mocking karate you don't have much experience with it.
