evergrey Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 Yes, but thankfully not very hard. I just coughed a bit and said "hoi! focus! Control! Aim!"White belts are so cute when they're mortified. http://kyokushinchick.blogspot.com/"If you can fatally judo-chop a bull, you can sit however you want." -MasterPain, on why Mas Oyama had Kyokushin karateka sit in seiza with their clenched fists on their thighs.

GaryMo Posted March 2, 2012 Author Posted March 2, 2012 Ouch indeed!Just starting to try solid foods now. Sick of soup and mushed up weetabix! My throat is still very sore, both internally when swallowing and externally but is steadily getting better. My voice is starting to come back somewhere near to normality now.Was supposed to be grading tomorrow for 1st Kyu but that's not going to happen, also there was a competition next Saturday which I was going to enter both individual and team kumite, again, not going to happen I've possibly got a cracked rib to go with my throat. I remember taking a punch and immediately backed off but within seconds was hit in the throat. A bad night all round for me. Anyway, my ribs are still hurting when taking deep breath, coughing, or attempting to laugh, not that I've got anything to laugh about!Oh what fun we have! Lol
Dobbersky Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 Totally agree, Gary, pop down to my club, as you're not training at the moment to say hi, OSU! "Challenge is a Dragon with a Gift in its mouth....Tame the Dragon and the Gift is Yours....." Noela Evans (author)
GaryMo Posted March 3, 2012 Author Posted March 3, 2012 Totally agree, Gary, pop down to my club, as you're not training at the moment to say hi, OSU!Thanks.I'll make sure I do just that sometime. It'll be good to see how other clubs train.
Jissen Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 I have, wasn't too bad. That's what sanchin is for, to protect yourself in case you dont block or evade. (many shuri te based systems use naihanchi/tekki for the same purpose among others) Seek not to follow in the footsteps of the old masters, rather, seek what they sought

"When you practice the stances of karate, be sure to keep your back straight, lower your shoulders, put strength in your legs, stand firmly, and drop your energy into your lower abdomen.""When you train, do so as if on the battlefield. Your eyes should glare, shoulders drop, and body harden."It may sound mystical, but it isn't. It's a sort of natural tension created by skeletal alignment, and expansion of the muscles rather than contraction (which makes you tired)It's not perfect but its worked for me several times when I got hit and felt only surface pain. Such is the case I was referring to here, it hurt a bit, but didn't do any damage. Seek not to follow in the footsteps of the old masters, rather, seek what they sought
bushido_man96 Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 No, I have never had that happen. It does not sound like something I'll add to my to-do list, either. I hope everything is ok for you. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
