If kickboxing is an option, perhaps you could supplement it with one day a week going to the Kyokushin dojo. For a while my own Kyokushin studies were limited to just 1 class a week, or sometimes even just every other week. I supplemented with Muay Thai for several months until training opportunities opened up again, and it made me a better fighter for it.

[/qoute]Hi Student4life, actually they are both "non-okinawan" karate.

You're right. I should have said Japanese styles based in Okinawan Karate.

"The ultimate aim of Karate lies not in victory or defeat, but in the perfection of character of its participants."(Master Gichin Funakoshi)

Thanks for great and honest replies!

I think I've misunderstood what kata really is and involves. sorry about that.

I've been thinking about muay thai or kickboxing aswell, but I dont think its for me(honestly dont know). But it feels like there is more to karate.

I appreciate all the answers! glad I choosed to post here!

Not 100% sure yet but I'm very likely to start with wado-ryu for now like some suggested!

Have you got any details of the Wado club.

I may be able to tell whether they are any good or not.

I've been to the wado-ryu club for introduction.

chief instructor is 6dan with refereer licence. Might not prove anything but he should know what he is doing.

Now I'm just hoping to pick up knowledge and basics. hopefully it will be useful if I decide to change to kyokushin later on when its more convenient.(will hopefully move in a year or two.)

If it is a good Wado club, there will be plenty of meat on the bones for you to gnaw on for years.

There is a lot of technical depth to Wado-ryu (physically and mentally).

Also - don't assume Wado can't be full contact!!

Is the club affiliated to either: JKF Wadokai, WIKF or Wado Ryu Renmei?

That’s more important than a 6th dan and referees license.

Swedish tho:P

Good group.

Ove Viggedal is not only a JKF Wado-kai 6th dan he also has a 2kyu instructor / examiner license and you have to be top drawer for that.

You are very lucky to have that standard of Wado near you.

I place a bet with you now - those guys are so good, I bet you will stick with them.
