Kuma Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 I can definitely say the baseball bat ones were faked. The breaks are way too clean and they're hitting on the fatter, more solid end. Those are demo bats too, which aren't nearly as solid as the real thing. Watch Kiyohide Shinjo Sensei, 9th dan Uechi Ryu, and you will see the difference.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=im9NzBciths(Starts at about 6:45)I have no experience with coconuts so I can't say, but those did look tough to break open.

DWx Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Having them held in a stand like that makes it a slightly different break to the vid Kuma posted. Kiyohide Shinjo Sensei's break was the bat breaking where it was struck, basically a speed break whereas the Rou Chan break was essentially bending the top and forcing the break at the weakest point.Do you only do those breaks on the bats dre2308? Or do you test students on other strikes or kicks? "Everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it." ~ Confucius
Kuma Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 I don't have Facebook so I can't see those.I've seen a lot of bats broken in my day and those look suspiciously too clean. Some of them broke a bit higher than the weakest point too. Maybe it's the skeptic in me but I'm not believing it.
DWx Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 I don't have Facebook so I can't see those.Photos are of the bats. Looks genuine enough to me, but I don't know about baseball or demo bats.. One of the photos shows one with the store sticker thingy with the barcode on. "Everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it." ~ Confucius

One of the photos shows one with the store sticker thingy with the barcode on.Without seeing them I can't say. Demo bats look like the genuine article but are made of soft wood so they break much more easily. Some do look legit in this video on second glance, but some of the breaks are a bit too clean.
Sokusen Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 Here is me breaking a bat with my fore arm. This was not a demo bat, to be honest I didn't know such a thing existed. I bought this bat at the local sporting goods store but you'll have to take my word for it. This was a very clean break so I don't know if you can tell from a video wether or not the bats used in the other videos are demo bat just on the break alone.
Kuma Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 Nice break. I've actually seen that video before, and almost posted it on this thread as a good example. You can see a jagged edge on the handle afterwards which shows there wasn't any real trickery with yours.
