Bassai Sho

I'm currently working on the Shotokan form Bassai Sho (relearning it really after have been introduced to it a long time ago and then putting it on the shelf for a number of years). I'm wondering what other styles practice this form? Since it is an Itosu kata there must be some Shorin ryu lineages that have it, I think? I think I remember seeing a Moo Duk Kwan version of it, too, but that was more than 20 years ago.

All links, thoughts, and opinions on Bassai Sho are appreciated.

The Shorinkan branch of Shorin-Ryu (Kobayashi) has it, although we call it Passai Sho, and we also have Passai Dai. Shuri-Ryu just has Bassai Dai, not Sho. It is definitely an interesting kata with different ways of running it and applying it, but I'm still a beginner in that respect.

We do Bassai Syo in my Shito ryu school, but it's not emphasized very much, whereas Bassai Dai is one of the most important kata. We also have Matsamura ha Bassai, again not practiced intensively, but we bring it out from time to time. I've worked on Bassai Dai hundreds of times more than the others, but it's nice to refer to them for a different view of Bassai kata.

Very smooth performance, although quite different from the Shotokan version. It's an interesting family tree.

Shorin Ryu and Shotokan ar very different systems and emphasise different aspects. They are similar in only general ways.
