hey guys is this normal? when i was in my TKD days (not to say i dont still train them i just dont go to class no more for it.) i had very easy belt tests... the classes WERE under 18. so i was assuming that was why. nobody under 18 could get theyre black belts.. i recieved my pre black belt by doing a small kata with a tornado/360 roundhouse on the end. i basicly didnt do any sparring.. not to mention... i was in this school for only like a year and a half. and recieved my pre black... is this normal? (for a mcdojo ;) :P) IT WAS NOT ATA ;)

er hard to say. Are you asking if it was unusual for easy tests/quick to blackbelt? Common in a lot of TKD schools that are McDojos/or a poor standard. Its what gives TKD a bad rep.

Very unusual for it to have no sparring whatsoever though. The majority of TKD schools would either be sparring orientated or contain a decent amount of it, even if it was a McDojo and the sparring was poor quality.

im not saying there wasnt any sparring like whatsoever.. just.. not for testing.. i guess i should have clarified what i meant by "basicly any sparring" lol but yah no sparring for tests.. i mean im not sure abt many other martial arts but ik in judo you can test with techniques in randori so yah... i dont see why it would b any different...

ah ok, my bad. But even so sparring is usually a big component of TKD tests: can be free sparring or more formal step-sparring. How about breaking? I know its definitely a requirement for ITF and similar-style schools, I think the ATA also requires it (Bushido_man96 could probably answer that for you), not sure on Kukki-tkd though.

tbh you're not selling the school very well :P but does it matter much if you're not training there anymore?

ATA requires breaking at the brown and red belt levels, the two before black. An instructor of mine incorporated breaking at the purple and blue levels, the two belts before brown.

In my current school, white belts do combinations at testing. All ranks above do at least one round of free sparring along with other curriculum. The tests usually covers forms, one-steps, sparring, and board breaks for the higher ranks. It really isn't some monster test of physical duress or anything like that.

there was breaking in the tests... at higher levels... like purple and above. the sparring was pretty well out of question as for the testing.. and yah.. not selling the school well.. cuz well.. i dont suggest the school to anyone :P and as previously stated.. i dont go there no more haha :D

thx tho.. i realize that the school i went to sucked worse than i expected LOL appreciate the input
