Honestly, I have no idea what you are asking.

Hi Difflock,

Please would you expand on your story, Grade 5 and Grade 7 sound like school years not Martial Arts Grades. What style of Martial Arts do you study? Does your Martial Arts school have coloured Belts system.

Most schools have Kyu or Gup grades depending on the origins of the style, if it is Kickboxing then 9 levels before Black under a different name will suffice.

To elaborate, it is not uncommon for some schools to "jump" grades if the student shows knowledge and understanding of the techniques/forms required for the specific grades. Usually it is done within the lower grades not the higher grades.

Don't worry if your friend has got higher just concentrate on your own journey through the system you have taken on

If I understand you correct, your friends where graded to yellow belt in their first test, instead of white belt.

I've heard, that in some dojos they do it like this, because they where gi and white belt from the first lesson and pupils why they have to do a test after a few weeks and wear the same belt afterwards.

Hey difflock, in some schools you can skip the first belt (white belt) and go straight to 8th kyu. Depends on the individual sensei and student though. In some schools, they allow adults and some juniors to double grade for the first testing if they learn the material quickly, and it often happens if the student has prior experience in martial arts.
