Depends much from the style and the dojo. But yes, several years - usually.

I've seen people, with no prior experience, get it in as little as 11 months...from certain systems.

Are they any good?

Depends on your definition of good I guess. I'd say no, they aren't very good at all.

If you don't want to stand behind our troops, please..feel free to stand in front of them.

Depends on your definition of good I guess. I'd say no, they aren't very good at all.

Its at least 5-6 years of hard training in traditional Matsubayashi schools. If there is one thing I have learned from years of training, you get back what you put forth. One year for a black belt? Ok.

How long for a black belt? About 280 cm, three for a tenner to you chief...

Seriously, it takes as long as it takes*, look up Bruce Lee's "finger pointing at the moon" speech (its older than that but he did it so well). It's some of the best advice on advancement there is.

IMO, it takes about 500 - 900 hours to in class training to earn a black belt.

If you're nonathletic, it'll be the higher end. If you're athletic, it'll be the lower end.

If you're relatively athletic, heal quick, and can squeeze in 500 hours in one year, then you may earn it in one year.
