kamahlthedruid
Yesterday, I learned that Systema is a real martial art. I guess the quality of instruction varies amongst different instructors. My instructor trains realistically because he is an ex Navy Seal. My instructor never said that Systema was a Christian faith based martial art, and he never said anything about intrinsic power. Every combat drill was reality based. I was especially glad when the instructor said he didn't how to perform non contact combat. Thus, I think I found myself a practical combative place to train. http://bouncecalifornia.com/ (website of the location in which I trained at) 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm on Thursdays is when classes are held. Wastelander
Does your instructor have a website? Not the bounce gym one, but one specifically for his Systema classes? I find Systema to be interesting and it has some useful and interesting concepts, but sometimes it looks like sloppy Jujutsu/Judo/Sambo and Karate techniques. I'm glad you like it and I'm interested to hear how it goes (I know that Steve Wildash's blog on his Systema training shows some good stuff, so its out there to be found) and I would also like to see videos if your instructor has any. JusticeZero
From what i've gathered by talking to it's practitioners, it suffers from having a lot of very strange-sounding drills and exercizes. They make sense once explained sufficiently, but there's a huge 'Whaaa..?' factor on seeing them first. But Please, if you're just learning a new style, stick to one instructor (atleast for the next 18 months to 2 years). they may have a different syllabus etc to work from and it won't help you in the long run as you won't know if you're coming or going.Keep us updated as to how its going "Challenge is a Dragon with a Gift in its mouth....Tame the Dragon and the Gift is Yours....." kamahlthedruid
Is there a flaw in the Bruce Lee Mindset. He studied primarily wing chun in Hong Kong; however, he also traded cha cha dance lessons for northern shaolin kung fu training. Perhaps he had a strong foundation before he learned northern shaolin training. I find it quite humdrum not being able to train often since martial art is my favorite hobby. I used to be able to play softball and two hand touch football very well, but now my motor skills suck due to a condition. Hopefully martial arts can improve my reaction time. kamahlthedruid
Sad news! I've been surfing the internet to find out about master Cohen and I found out that he has Parkinson's disease. Maybe he just instructs all his students instead of participating in the action.
