still kicking Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 When I saw the heading of this thread, my first thought was "no, I'd miss the smell of sweat". Ha ha ha. Reading the posts, though, it seems like it has possibilities. If I ever figure it all out, I might join you.
Wastelander Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 Well, Skype can give better quality but I think for the purposes of getting larger groups of people together over video chat for training and discussion of martial arts we might be better off with using TinyChat.TinyChat is just a simple chat website where lots of people can join, with or without webcams, and those with webcams and mics can be seen and heard while others can use the chat beneath the webcam window. I don't believe that there is a limit to the number of users. If we did that then we could just schedule days to have conferences, or even have "keynote speakers" through it on occasion.Just my two cents--I don't have a webcam at the moment but I do like the idea. Jeffrey Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 WOW!!Jeff and I just finished a video call....and it was GREAT. Many, many more to come.Good thing about this venue....it doesn't take anything away from KF.And Danielle, martial artists, no matter the style and no matter the background, will still find a lot to talk about. So, please come aboard.Jeff and I talked about the weather, I introduced him to my wife and daughter, and of course...we talked about the martial arts. In that small time frame, we covered a wide gambit of several topics. Jeff and I were wondering if more than two can be one during a video call?!? If so, hold the phone, we could be having a kind of roundtable discussion...LIVE!! WOW!!I'm so excited!!So....right now I only have Jeff on my Skype contact list and if you're interested...please let me know your Skype ID or request and I'll accept you...or however this works. I'm still new to this but I have faith in everyone else at KF. I have to say that this is pretty awesome. There will be many more to come for sure. It is a great way to put faces to names and learn a bit more about a person other than just a posting histroy. Next will be trying to figuer out a way to train in some way.
bushido_man96 Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 I don't have a webcam right now, either, but I think that this would be an interesting way to train. Instead of doing forms or such, it would be great to train with partners on different tactics and ideas from MAs, and if several from the same style get together, then the forms idea would be great.I like this idea, Bob. I'll have to look into clearing a spot in my basement for all this! https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
tkdkid123 Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 How does this work? I have a skype, but I don't know how we would train at the same time? "Impossible" is just an excuse not to try. - me
