Wolfman08 Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 So, there's a bit of a story behind this question (if anyone wants to know I'll tell you, I just doubt anyone cares), but basically, does anyone know how I could use MMA as a fundraiser? There are local venues that I'm going to be contacting in a few days to see if we could coordinate through them, I'm just not sure how we could make an MMA event a fundraiser and wanted some suggestions before I sent any emails. Thanks in advance, and sorry if this is the wrong place.
Groinstrike Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Ive heard of them done for benefits such has Police/firefighter or for wounded military personnel.
Wolfman08 Posted May 24, 2011 Author Posted May 24, 2011 Right, but if there's already a venue, what could be do to make it more a source of revenue.
sensei8 Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 For me, the word "fundraiser" is for non-profit. In that, any MMA event used as a "fundraiser" is for charity, and not for profit, aka, "revenue"!For me, the word "revenue" is for profit. In that, any MMA event used for "revenue" purpose's is for personal financial gain.Nothing is wrong, imho, with either uses, just as long as the clarity of both is understood and respected. One would have to get a license either for non-profit or profit, in that, those laws, rules, and regulations would have to be followed to the letter. Otherwise, imho, if one hosts a MMA event for "fundraiser" purposes, yet afterwards one uses the money raised for personal gain..."revenue", I'm no lawyer, but I'm sure the police would be called by someone.I would just caution you, or others, to first contact a lawyer with your questions and concerns to see if your plans are legal or not. There's a saying...Ignorance of the law is no defense; no excuse. **Proof is on the floor!!!
Wolfman08 Posted May 24, 2011 Author Posted May 24, 2011 So, we've established that it is possible to use MMA as a fundraiser, but does no one have ideas on how it could be done?
JusticeZero Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 For charity?Ask around to see if you can get a place to host your event, with the understanding that it is for charity, for free or on the cheap. Make fliers and get volunteers to spread the word. Sell tickets plus a donation box, 'part of the cost of this overpriced ticket goes to help starving wombats in antarctica'.Get peeps to do the event. Talk to the press about it. Hold the event. Send the profits to the wombats in Africa. "Anything worth doing is worth doing badly." - Baleia
