Liver Punch Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 Lyoto Machida just knocked out Randy Couture with a Crane Kick...pretty cool I must say. "A gun is a tool. Like a butcher knife or a harpoon, or uhh... an alligator."― Homer, The Simpsons
MasterPain Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 I just called it a scissor kick, and it was indeed awesome. there were some good side kicks to the thigh in there as well. It's nice to see a Karate guy to trains to fight, and then beats people with Karate. My fists bleed death. -Akuma
Liver Punch Posted May 1, 2011 Author Posted May 1, 2011 Don't ruin this....it was a crane kick - end of discussion. And yeah, useful karate, which is good. "A gun is a tool. Like a butcher knife or a harpoon, or uhh... an alligator."― Homer, The Simpsons
Wastelander Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 Well, I thought it was more like the jumping front kick in Chinto, but it's very close to the "crane kick" that everybody wants it to be so I suppose that's good enough . It certainly was a great kick! bushido_man96 Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 As far as the "crane kick" goes, we taught that to our yellow belts (3rd gup) in the ATA, and all of our students learn that kick as a basic kick in orientation class. Minus standing on the stump, of course. For what its worth...hope that doesn't ruin the mysticism of the "crane kick" for anyone. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
yamesu Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 I loved this, and I really think that GSP and Machida are doing good things for Karate in the MMA world at present!OSU "We did not inherit this earth from our parents. We are borrowing it from our children."
Jay Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Great knockout but im sad for couture he is increadible at his age.Im sorry but I can't resist'If do right, no can defense' The key to everything is continuity achieved by discipline.
bushido_man96 Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Great knockout but im sad for couture he is increadible at his age.I agree. He is still a phenomenal Martial Artist and athlete, and I'm certain he could still compete at some lower levels with great success. Maybe we'll all get lucky and he'll do some more movies, and let his career go that route. But, if he chooses to keep fighting, then more power to him. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
joesteph Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 I know this is going to sound oversimplified, but it looks like the jump front kick I learned in Soo Bahk Do, but going for distance rather than altitude. The announcer did call it a crane kick.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ngwUFxwQxfA ~ JoeVee Arnis Jitsu/JuJitsu
joesteph Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 This fellow names the fight and calls that shot a front jump kick. ~ JoeVee Arnis Jitsu/JuJitsu
