School T-Shirts

Do you sell T-Shirts to promote your school? We have some made from time to time. I doubt if anyone is going to see someone wearing a T-shirt and say "Oh, I think I'll go train at that school". But... I do think it's possible that if they had already been thinking about it, it might remind them and they will take the plunge. If nothing else, it's a little profit for the school, and promotes school spirit. A couple of times we've had contests where people could submit designs and we voted on the ones we liked best to be used for the T-shirts. Maybe it's silly, but hey, who ever has enough T-shirts? I'm wondering about other schools' experience with this.

Once a year our school has the school logo screen printed on any item that a student wants, mostly t-shirts. We workout in a warehouse that can get really hot in the summer so we don't wear our gi tops from june - august. I think the t-shirt thing came out of our instructor wanting everyone to having matching t-shirts while we were working out. Based on the price he charges on the screen printing I'd say he does it for school spirit more than anything.

Every few years I have some school t-shirts made (I always pre-order from my students so I don't have to many leftovers). One year I did black, another red, yellow, blue, etc. They aren't fancy and usually just have the Okinawan "pinwheel" (I always forget what that's called) that you will see under my name at the left on the back of the shirt.

My oldest son has a fancy t-shirt making machine, so I always get a killer deal on the shirts! My cost is usually around $5, I sell them for $10. I always get about 5-6 for myself.

Years back we did at my ATA club. Not really since. My current instructor has gym t-shirts, but none for our TKD class specifically.

Maybe I could get my dad to put a cool design together, and pitch it to him. My dad does screen printing, so I might see what he can do. Good idea!

We've got school shirts. Mainly for students/family members to wear outside the class at events we attend. So we all wear them to go tournaments and seminars, the people running the half-marathon this weekend have them...

A couple of times when I've been wearing mine after training and when I've popped out to the shops at a tournament I've had people come up to ask about it. Mainly seems like they're inquiring about it for their kids though.

YES! I helped design a shirt for a new tournament that my big senpai was putting on in another city yesterday (well, when I say "helped" I mean that he did all of the work, I just made a poster design that he converted into a snappy high-contrast shirt design).

Anyway, after the tournament yesterday I stopped at the grocery store on my way home. As I went through the vegetable section I noticed several people, including the security guard stopping and reading my shirt. Then, sure enough, a man waking past out-of-the blue says "How did you do today?" To Which I responded, "Go number 2~ haha!" We then had a long conversation about where I trained, how to get there, and whether or not they accept students of other styles. He even jotted down our website. I don't know if he will actually come and visit us or not, but that was a heck of a lot more interest than when we set-up a table in the mall!

I don't know if it was my senpai's eye for color, or if a smiley miniature female with a giant bruised arm wearing a martial arts tournament shirt is just a curiosity in and of itself.

I have t-shirts printed up for the club I instruct at my local high school. Like other sports team shirts they are printed in the school colors. They have the school logo (a ram) on the front breast and our club logo in a big graphic on the back. For my private class, however, I haven't done shirts.
