I just found out that there is a Polish karate style- Karate do Tsunami. Although by the look of their technicues and kata performances on youtube it's most likely a McDojo.

The founder Ryszard Murat had 7kyu in Kyokushin, and then established this style giving himself the rank of 10dan.

here is the style site

and the mos funny videos on youtube

Any thoughts?

Learning to fight with a shovel is no more bazaar these days then learning to use a kama. And the mounted position they showed in the second video almost definitely has a few advantages, same with the choke shown. And several of the techniques demonstrated looked fairly effective, and entirely legit. Really the biggest issue I see is the kata shown in the first video was done with more speed then accuracy. Even the issue with the founder's rank isn't that big of a deal in my mind. Miyamoto Musashi was one of the greatest swordsmen in Japan, and one of the greatest in the world. He founded his own style, and wrote one of the most read martial arts books in the world as well, and he never trained under anyone in swordsmanship [/devil's advocate]

Musashi also killed 60 dudes in one on one duels. That tends to give credibility as a swordsman, although it could arguably be seen as a psychological issue.

There is also a style called "Tsunami-Ryu" that was created by a guy with credentials from a style I haven't heard of and it looks like a miserable excuse for a "martial art" but this at least appears to have some legitimacy to it. That said, that kid in the first video looks like he is trying to run part of Bassai Dai without any power, focus or control. Unless he is a special needs student then someone should have told him not to compete, and if his instructor taught him to do it that way then there is a serious problem.

So it isn't a perfect simile.

Dont laugh but I'm considering joining that style, because its said that in this style you can learn at home alone and then just pass the exam, which dont seem to hard. And once you have higher rank you can do something like interest group and teach a litle, and from 3kyou up you and doing instructors test you can teach as an instructor.

Oh and adding to shovel I heard that they also learned how to defend with deer horns

Sorry, but I couldn't help myself.

Unfortunately, having been in the arts some 35 years or so now, I've had the dubious privilage of seeing arts like this being taught around the country. It's sad that the public that is seeking a legitimate martial art to learn doesn't have a clue that they are being taken by people like this.

If you don't want to stand behind our troops, please..feel free to stand in front of them.
