Well I have been studying Hapkido for 8 years now and my oldest daughter has stepped into the martial arts world. She is 7 and she is starting Shorin-Ryu. She loves it and I am so proud to see her in class. :D I am trying not to be too hard on her when she practices at home. It feels great to see the next generation discovering martial arts. :karate:

Why are you doing Hapkido with her doing Shorin Ryu? Why is she not doing Hapkido also? Don't get me wrong, I'm glad to hear she's training...just figured you'd want her to train in the same art.

At our school we recommend a school at a nearby town for kids classes. Life happens and there's just not time to run a kids class as well. The TKD school is a good place for the kids to start.

Also, some kids learn better without a parent present, much like they listen to a teacher better than parents. Younger children like to show off, which gets in the way of focus. With older kids I think it's part of psychological development and the need for increased independence.

I hear you there, MasterPain. I have that problem with trying to work with my son, who is 5. I want him to do TKD with me, but I would like to get him into Kids Wrestling first.

Its great to hear that your child is getting into MA, too. :karate: Its great when its a family affair. :)

That's awesome! My daughter is 7 and when I asked her to pick an activity to do, she chose karate. We don't train together either, but it is fun watching her learn.

I will eventually guide my daughter to Hapkido, but for now I want her to find her own way. She is happy and loving Shori-Ryu. Her happiness is what matters, not my wantings for her to follow in my footsteps. :karate:
