blade1116 Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Well I have been studying Hapkido for 8 years now and my oldest daughter has stepped into the martial arts world. She is 7 and she is starting Shorin-Ryu. She loves it and I am so proud to see her in class. I am trying not to be too hard on her when she practices at home. It feels great to see the next generation discovering martial arts. The most successful battle is the one in which you master yourself.
MasterPain Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 That's awesome. Keep it fun. My fists bleed death. -Akuma
ps1 Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Why are you doing Hapkido with her doing Shorin Ryu? Why is she not doing Hapkido also? Don't get me wrong, I'm glad to hear she's training...just figured you'd want her to train in the same art. "It is impossible to make anything foolproof because fools are so ingenius."
MasterPain Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 At our school we recommend a school at a nearby town for kids classes. Life happens and there's just not time to run a kids class as well. The TKD school is a good place for the kids to start. Also, some kids learn better without a parent present, much like they listen to a teacher better than parents. Younger children like to show off, which gets in the way of focus. With older kids I think it's part of psychological development and the need for increased independence. My fists bleed death. -Akuma
bushido_man96 Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 I hear you there, MasterPain. I have that problem with trying to work with my son, who is 5. I want him to do TKD with me, but I would like to get him into Kids Wrestling first. Its great to hear that your child is getting into MA, too. Its great when its a family affair. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
wldct69 Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 That's awesome! My daughter is 7 and when I asked her to pick an activity to do, she chose karate. We don't train together either, but it is fun watching her learn.
blade1116 Posted March 6, 2011 Author Posted March 6, 2011 I will eventually guide my daughter to Hapkido, but for now I want her to find her own way. She is happy and loving Shori-Ryu. Her happiness is what matters, not my wantings for her to follow in my footsteps. The most successful battle is the one in which you master yourself.
bushido_man96 Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Kudos, blade! Enjoy the ride with your daughter. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
