zalexia Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 theres two new kicks shihan taught us saturday a twist on spinning back kick which seems to me to be a lot like tkd 's spinning hook kick . Theres also this move we're doing where u go from a low round house fake kick and then change in the middle of it w/o resetting to an upper round house.Now for us people who have had kids, our hips are not that shingshing if u get that .for the spinning one u basically do a normal version of that but instead of straight back u would go up and over like a back wards crescant almost i am just trying to visualize it for u. i can do spinning but lifting up is hard. where is the power w/o losing balance from the fake low round house to the upper because it seems part way i lose momentum w/o resetting.Also flying wishbone i think its called basically a split kick in the air do u have to be a gymnist for that?

You spin around, shift your weight to your front foot, pick your back leg and hip up and swing the heel around into the target, yes? spinning hook kick? Isn't that what some of you folks call a dragon kick?We pretty much normally only do those with our hands on the floor, which obviously changes the dynamics a lot. Yes, your version is going to require a lot of flexibility. It's spinning, obviously, but it also picks up power from the act of straightening and extending your leg with the glutes.where is the power w/o losing balance from the fake low round house to the upper because it seems part way i lose momentum w/o resetting.You will lose some power there. I suspect you will find that the fake is done with the leg forward, and the real kick is the one where the hips unfolded into the target.Also flying wishbone... split kick in the air do u have to be a gymnist for that? Lots of flexibility, lots of daredevil, lots of flash, not so much practicality. Treat it as a training goal to demonstrate and focus attributes you need for more useful techniques. DWx Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 The spinning hook kick is a pretty standard TKD kick, should be able to find loads of tutorials on YouTube (e.g. this one, ). The good thing about this kick is that the momentum makes it easier to get the leg up higher. You just have to relax and try to open up the hips. To get it a bit higher you can lean the body the opposite direction but be careful because this makes it harder to balance and leaning too far back will significantly reduce the amount of mass behind the kick. Practice with a wall (like the guy in the video does) to get your balance.With the fake roundhouse - roundhouse kick I find concentrating on the chamber position to be most important. Go to throw the 1st kick but be sure to pull it back in tight and even back a little, then let the 2nd one go. Its important to make sure that the 1st one looks like its meant to hit otherwise you're just wasting time and opportunity throwing it. You've got to be convincing enough that your opponent reacts to it. I think in the case of this one you just have to keep practicing to get the movement down.You're flying wishbone sounds like our two-directional kick. Not very practical but it does demonstrate some things. First of all, you have to show understanding of the two separate kicks when on the ground otherwise there's no chance of you pulling it off. Then you have to show that you have the athletic ability to jump and execute it in the air. To some extent it also shows that you can generate power without the mass (so just on the technique and speed) because you don't have the standing leg to help drive you forward into the target.
