JiuJitsuNation Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 People are gonna go where they are comfortable and where they find the company around them agreeable, over all else. The majority anyway. It generally has little to do with style. https://www.1jiujitsunation.com
isshinryu5toforever Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Going where they are comfortable is great. I encourage it. People do martial arts for different reasons. My only issue, and it sounds like one of the few issues, is when they go to a bunch of different places for a week or two and then start telling people, instructor included, what they're doing wrong. Doing stuff like that just makes you, "that guy." He who knows others is wise. He who knows himself is enlightened.- Tao Te Ching"Move as swift as a wind, stay as silent as forest, attack as fierce as fire, undefeatable defense like a mountain."- Sun Tzu, the Art of War
bushido_man96 Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 Do you know of anyone that feels that you should only train and compete within thier own style? Whats your opinion on training or competing with various styles? Most of the people, including the chief instructor, at my club think that you should only train with those within our own style. I have even heard other style berated in favor or our own. I think this is terrible. How good are you if you are reluctant to go outside of what you know to test yourself?I've expressed my feelings with this scenario in an article: Martial Arts "Monogamy". I think that if an instructor is going to try to restrain what you want to learn, then you should consider finding an instructor that would not mind you doing this.[/url] https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
