question on shito ryu ranks

i got promoted tonight and am sankyu brown belt one tip, then it goes nikyu and ikkyu , he said theres one more real promotion before black belt.

yet i am confused as to also the 1st dan, 2nd etc i think karate goes up to 10th right? Also that when we got our brown belt it started w/ a tip unlike others i'm not sure what that was about lol but technically it isnt official i'm guessing til u got the paper.

is there special training for dan level? Generally how long does that take?

Dan levels depend on the style. In TKD, time between dan levels goes up as you go up the dan ranks. I've seen other styles with only 2 or 3 years between each dan rank, so it will depend on your style.

I'd consult with your instructor for some more accurate information.

The belt between may be Shodon-Ho, typically a black belt with a white stripe through it. Everything about Dan ranks are specific to the organization you are part of, so again, ask your teacher.

Most schools require you to teach a bit before your black belt and you have to be an ikkyu for about a year. Ask your instructor, I'm sure he would be happy to explain. It is best to ask how it works in general, not specifically, "When do I get promoted".
