Thhis section of the forum is home to posters of many different grappling disciplines with varying levels of experience, so what are your specifics?

I train in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, for now I am training with a couple of blue belts, under Louis Vintaloro, Brown belt under Royler Gracie and shodan in Judo. I am a white belt and I've been training for about five months....this fall I am looking forward to entering a competition or two, just to test my skills!

I train in Ki Aikido, under Sensei Williams and Sensei Margret, who trained with Sensei K Tohei (10th Dan) and Sensei Abbe (10th Dan).

Could you tell me more about BJJ, I know very little about it, any good links?

Sure! Some of my favorites are:

BJJ.org - Basic info on the Gracie family, even though it hasn't been updated in ages!

Jiu-Jitsu forum, interviews, and editorials - good stuff!

In The Guard online technique catalog!

Rorion and Helio's US academy

I guess those are a good place to start. Jiu-Jitsu basically begins with judo and ends with submission wrestling. The idea is that you take someone to the ground and finish the fight from there, or if you are ever taken down, you know how to reverse position. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is really closer to Kano's judo than to Japanese JuJutsu, IMHO.

Many thanks. I have a great deal of respect for Kano's Judo.

To be honest I dont really like the Gracie family arrogance to other Martial Arts. have you heard of Emin? a 5th level Wing Tsun practioner that wants to fight a Gracie, as they keep bad mouthing other arts. Type in Wing Tsun in google and go to the first site I think it is and read the "FORMAL CHALLENGE".

I dont really believe in that sort of stuff myself, all martial arts are respectable, its a shame that the people who do them are not. Did you know that Kano himself went to train in a little Aikido, and even sent some of his best students to O Sensei Ueshiba.

XpOiSoN FrEeX, that sounds like an extremely well-rounded art....unfortunately there are no schools teaching that kind of curriculum around here....

And yes, Kensai, I too feel the Gracies often have a bad attitude about their self-proclaimed superiority, but I know I certainly will never challenge one of them so won't be met with their arrogance personally . I have also read many of the https://www.bjj.org interviews, and it seems that certain members of the Gracie clan are more arrogant than others.

Xpoison Frex, that sounds like a cool art. There's a Small Circle JJ place nearby me, so I might think about checking it out. Do you know any websites with info about it?

It is only with the heart that one can see clearly, for the most essential things are invisible to the eye.

Hello,

I do Freestyle Ju-jitsu.

It blends many styles like Ju-jitsu (stand up and ground), Aikido, judo and Hapkido,...and boxing and kickboxing for the striking ... It's Like blending ju-jitsu styles back together into a much modern style for today self defense needs.

We do stand up striking techniques(kicks, punches, elbows and knees), join locks and throws and ground grappling. and defense against weapons (knifes, sticks, etc..)

:)

Backgrounds huh?

Started Judo when I was about 11, kept at it till I was about 28 - had to stop due to physical limitations (I was sick of continually nursing injuries!)

Did Capoeria pretty intensly for over a year finally ending up in Brazil for over a months worth of training 6 hours a day, every day.

Got exposed to BJJ in Brazil, took it up about two years ago, currently Blue Belt in BJJ.

Been competing in grappling since day one and plan to continue till day nought!
