I was always told that it was to reduce friction from gloves sliding on the face, making it less likely for someone to get cut. Jay Posted January 9, 2011 Share Posted January 9, 2011 Its interesting I have always thought they should make gloves out of a material thats like balistic jelly but doesn't shear as easily. It would make cuts much less common and prevent fighters from head trauma. Of course the side effect would be knockouts would be much less common. I guess the sport would lose viewers.
