xo-karate Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Has anyone tried to use xbox as a tool for a workout? Maybe even for a sparring session? There is a boxing game and fitness programs, but is there any kickboxing or somethig else that could be used as martial arts practice?
Lupin1 Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 I've always wondered why they don't make Martial Arts training games for wii or xbox kinect. It could be almost like Guitar Hero, only for Martial Arts. You could have to learn kata and stuff to advance to the next "belt". I think that would be awesome, although everyone who gets a black belt on the game would probably consider themselves and actual black belt-- like how people who are good at Guitar Hero think they're actual guitar gods and stuff...I would totally buy it, though.
Iron Arahat Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 These things are very much a fad. Boxing on a system like that is nothing like real boxing whatsoever. Might be better for kids who are video addicts to get a little exercise, but far from a good training tool at this point. MasterPain Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 I would rather do things I saw in Tekken. Try to copy Hwarang. My fists bleed death. -Akuma
DWx Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Would be an awesome idea and I'd buy it. TBH though I don't think they register the movements fast enough. Playing boxing on the wii and you have to slow your movements right down or it doesn't pick it up.I would rather do things I saw in Tekken. Try to copy Hwarang.I've seen the guy who did the motion capture for Hwarang He's the coach for the Japanese national squad for ITF taekwondo. my one claim to fame "Everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it." ~ Confucius

But they're fun I'd not mind doing some kinetic katas or having a kinetic boxing match...
xo-karate Posted December 1, 2010 Author Posted December 1, 2010 Boxing on a system like that is nothing like real boxing whatsoever.... but far from a good training tool at this point.BUT wouldn't your own movements be real? You can do best possible technique even though xbox or wii does not track your movements perfectly? By doing perfect kicks and punches wouldn't you still get a work out?It does not have to be the only way you practice - just a small add to regular training sessions. Maybe a reaction game for blocking, conterattacks?
wolverine uskf Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Sounds like fun to me, besides who cares if it's not perfect it would be fun. As for not being real belts, who cares, i've known to many (real black belts) that didn't deserve them, and this would be a way to reach the people that live in a cyber bubble, and maybe get them to try the real thing.
sperki Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 I like video games and this sounds like fun to me. What annoys me about kinect is that I keep hearing a Microsoft spokesperson talk about the exercise it will provide. I've never played it, but I'm calling baloney on that! It might be virtual exercise, but real exercise (the kind that improves physical fitness, not avatars) happens in real life, not in virtual reality. Like I said, I like playing video games, but I don't do it for a work out. It's my way to chill out. And I don't think I'm that weird

I certainly breathe hard after a few rounds of DDR.
