AnonymousOne
If you do go to Sydney make a point of going to Starling's school. I have seen him and he has an excellent reputation. 7th Dan ChidokaiA true combat warrior has to be hard as nails in mind, body and soul. Warriors are action takers and not action fakers. MOO
I also study under Shihan Ebanez Head of Goju Ryu Karate Australia and the training is very traditional, with lots of kata involved and kumite about once to twice a week......our training can also be very hard with Shihan pushing us to the limits both physically and sometimes emotionally 'cos many tend to get a bit pissed off at him with his instructions..... but it's all apart of the training which teaches you humility........ cheers, moo I CAN'T THINK OF ANYTHING THAT IS EVEN HALF INSPIRATIONAL! Joecooke007
What Goju ryu katas do you know? In my school I have learned: Gek sai ichi Gek sai ni 2 Tai chi katas 4 namphakten katas (nothing to brag about all of the nampahkten are too easy) Sanchin Boards don't hit back. -Bruce Lee
chh
I've only learned gekisai dai ichi and sanchin so far, I've pretty much memorized gekisai dai ni from watching other students but haven't started practicing it yet. I think after gekisai dai ni we'll learn saifa. We don't have any advanced students so what comes next is always a bit of a mystery to me, I'm not even sure what belt color comes after white in our dojo! (Must happen at 7th kyu since I don't think 4 stripes would fit...) I thought there were only 12 katas in Goju ryu, and I'm not familiar with the other ones you mentioned. Is this the difference between Japanese influenced and traditional Okinawan Goju??
