G95champ Posted August 7, 2002 Posted August 7, 2002 No question Shakespheare copied all his works. He made no secert of the fact the stole ideas from other plays and stories. With that said I mean their is not a lot to write about. LOVE, DEATH, POWER. Everything comes back to those big 3. As far as the g a y thing I don't know what you mean except for the fact that boys or med did alll the acting. Most agree Shakespheare was not gay. Guys played the parts but not because they were gay but because it was the times they lived in. Women could not be actors. It was not till the 20th century that we see women do jobs outspde of what we consider traditional female jobs nures, teacher, etc. Is that what you are refering to? (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."
metalhead Posted August 7, 2002 Posted August 7, 2002 Just for the sake of curiosity and only as an observer, I would like to go back to when the Shaolin Temples were active and see for myself what was really going on. "Do not assume I share your prejudices"
three60roundhouse Posted August 7, 2002 Posted August 7, 2002 No, I was referring to the fact that Shakespeare's marriage was rumored to have been "loveless" and he just had to marry her because he had gotten her pregnant. When he died, most of his possesions were left to his daughter Susanna, what he left his wife is sometimes said to be "the second best bed" and sometimes "the bad bed". Either way, the wording of his will is seen as a sign that Shakespeare didn't think of his wife as his first or true love (The Earl of Southhampton is perhpas the person to whom the Bard's famous love sonnets were written). Here are some links on the subject of his sexuality, which is still under scrutiny.... http://www.jetlink.net/~massij/shakes/gay.html http://books.guardian.co.uk/departments/classics/story/0,6000,688633,00.html http://iccoventry.icnetwork.co.uk/0100news/0150swarksnews/page.cfm?objectid=11810869&method=full&siteid=50002 http://www.q.co.za/2001/2002/04/22-shakespeare.html There is much more on the subject, just go to Google and type in Shakespeare's sexuality or something similar to that. The question with the authorship of the plays is not whether he stole the ideas but whether he stole the words. Adaptations of other plays are not some horrible thing, but having your name known as the one who adapted them when you, in fact, did not is pretty bad. 1st dan Tae Kwon DoYellow Belt Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu16 Years OldGirls kick butt!
