To good a teacher.

Recommended Posts

Well i love teaching my boys on my own, but i think i'm doing to good a job. My older son Zack has beaten me twice now in stand up points sparring, and Zack and Justin went at it for at least 5 minutes befor Zack won 3-2. I'm just glad that my wife didn't see me block with my bad arm(bad idea dummy)that hurt, and ended my concentration.

Grappling was a different story, because i grab and throw with my right side, and just use my left for control. Zack almost had me once with a choke, but i got out and got him with an arm bar. Justin is better at stand up fighting, because he's not strong enough yet for grappling with us, but he's fast and flexable enough to be a good stand up fighter. :karate:

Being a kick boxer i've never liked points sparring, but i am very proud of my boys, and get more proud every lesson i teach them. :D

I'm glad that martial arts gives fathers and sons a chance to do an activity together. I have two eight-year-olds (going on nine), and even though we take different classes, I'm there when they train, wearing my dobok just as they do. I'm really looking forward to the day when I can mix it up with them.

I know what you mean, Wolverine, when you say you're proud of them. I photograph and record my sons doing karate, and even post these to Facebook. There are some photos of David and Patrick in the Photo Album right here on Karate Forums.

You could click on the link (white letters on red background) at the top of the page and see if you'd like to upload a photo--or a few--of your own boys.

I just cant wait until my daughter is old enough. She is two now, and I am already trying to get her to punch & kick.

You do not need to be flexible to do a Jodan (head kick), if your opponent is already on the ground.

I concur. It's a blast to teach your kids the martial arts. Only one of my kids didn't want to learn the martial arts; my youngest son,, who's 16 years old now, his love is basketball/baseball....in that order. The other three dabbled in the martial arts but, other things became more important to them. My youngest daughter was a chip of the old block when it came to the martial arts, but, then...FLUTE/PICCALO entered her life and man oh man she can play, and she's only in the 9th grade.

My kids at first had difficulty in seperating dad from sensei. Put they learnt to seperate the two for the conduciveness across the board. They received no special treatment at any time, however, my kids thought that that came automatically with the territory. They learnt differently from day one!

Enjoy each and every moment that you have them on the floor with you! Imho, nothing can compare...for now. I say for now because things can change in a moment.

:)

**Proof is on the floor!!!

Thats awesome to hear! I hope to get my son to training with me soon. He'll be 5 this month, and I hope that soon he will be able to concentrate enough for me to work with him.
