evergrey Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 OSU, yes, some in fact do! http://kyokushinchick.blogspot.com/"If you can fatally judo-chop a bull, you can sit however you want." -MasterPain, on why Mas Oyama had Kyokushin karateka sit in seiza with their clenched fists on their thighs.
Capt Jakk Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 I wonder why almost every martial artist I meet puts down other people's style and think that their style is best. It's psychological, the name of the specific theory evades me right now but the just of it is that people will think more highly of things they have invested in. I believe one study showed that just picking up a dropped pencil for someone showed higher ratings of positive feelings toward the person who dropped the pencil. Now think of all the time, money, sweat, blood, and tears some people have put into a particular martial arts style. The person almost has to think what they are studying is the best in order to justify everything they put into it. I will now stop being off topic and agree that those guys in the video train pretty hard.
kamahlthedruid Posted September 2, 2010 Author Posted September 2, 2010 I think kyokushin fighter would be even more effective if they incorporated gloves and face contact into their training.
Nevinyrral Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 I remember when we were told to do similar training as in the video by our sensei. Leg kicks and punches to chest were ok with me, but when my partner was suppose to kick me to my belly he hit me right in the Liver?(dont know if thats the right word) I just couldnt stand anymore A style is just a name.
joesteph Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 . . . when my partner was suppose to kick me to my belly he hit me right in the Liver?(dont know if thats the right word) I remember when my boys were newer to karate and the instructor asked them to call out blocks or punches that he'd practice with them. One of their calls was for "low punch," which they'd never done, and which I thought was a mistake that he, the instructor, was being nice about as they did punches to where it's in-between navel and groin.I spoke about it with him later on and found out that you can really do some damage hitting there. The bladder, the liver . . . you'll give some internal organ a shock, and that was a punch. A kick must be murder! ~ JoeVee Arnis Jitsu/JuJitsu
Dobie1979 Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 kyokushin has tai sabaki! I wonder why almost every martial artist I meet puts down other people's style and think that their style is best.Cool video! I always thought that Kyokushin dudes just pounded on eachother. Where I train we do alot of moving off line for a throw or to counter. Its great to see although slight differences in throughout the world karate, we are all still very similar. On a side note one of my favorite throws and I seen it in this video. Was when moving off line, getting to the back of your oppenent and grabbing the back of his collar and jerking him to the ground. I really like that move.

You can take him down w/o even hitting him. I remember a video on the Black Belt website in which the one moving behind the other grabbed the face (not the head, exactly, but the face) from behind. I think the collar is faster and likely simpler; the face grab from behind required both hands. ~ JoeVee Arnis Jitsu/JuJitsu
ps1 Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 These guys don't look that good to me. I could be wrong. But I'm not impressed by people just hitting each other hard. Anyone can do that. When it shows clips of the actual fighting, I'm not impressed. "It is impossible to make anything foolproof because fools are so ingenius."
