joesteph Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 I put this under Self-Defense because of the video presentation, which concludes with reference to an altercation.I was at the Black Belt website and came across a video by Thomas Cruse, Why "Destructions" Work. The first half of the video is intro, but I see his point in terms of real-world defense when using elbow and shin. He doesn't go into much about the shin in the video, except to show where he places it against a kick, but the story w/ "demo" about the elbow is interesting. I think, though, that it takes a lot of precision training to effectively perform the elbow defense that way.http://www.blackbeltmag.com/videos/297~ Joe ~ JoeVee Arnis Jitsu/JuJitsu

I just find them hard to pull off for the reason you mention. Not impossible, it's just hard to train them in an effective manner and still let the partner go full speed. But when they are pulled off, they are quite effective. "It is impossible to make anything foolproof because fools are so ingenius."
Tzu-Logic Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 We practice these at my school. For faster training your partner can wear thickly padded mma gloves or bag gloves to protect their hands. That way you can move at a more realistic speed (still not full speed though... ) A warrior may choose pacifism, all others are condemned to it."Under the sky, under the heavens, there is but one family." -Bruce Lee
