Disrespect from those that matter not to me, nor know me, or know nothing about me, have no effect on me. I don't waste my emotions on them. My journey is not to gain respect from the world. I respect myself, I need not prove anything, to anyone.

If they really want to take you on you should just either walk away from the ignorance, or show them that you can acually beat them up. Who really cares what they think. YOu know why your doing martial arts, so don't let the dumb people wreck it for you.

It's what you put into it...

To summarize: Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me!

I quite liked your post, it was good..

I don't agree with the above statement, but:

sticks and stones ONLY break the bones, words may shatter the soul..

It takes sacrifice to be the best.

Well my mind is strong enough to block every bad word comming my way. Don't know my hands and feet are.

Oh, I kind of disagree with all of the previous posters (monkeygirl included, sorry hon)

Because I think you have been shown a high level of respect..... what you have just met is jealousy, pure and simple. Your tormentors either do not have the stamina, fortitude or sheer guts to meet you toe-to-toe. Otherwise they wouldn't be taunting you from across the way. Hold your head high as the receptacle of the vast knowlege your instructor imparts to you. Be assured in that knowlege that you alone know the full power and potential inside of your being. They do not determine the person you are or will ultimately be- only you have that power. :karate:

I know it sort of dates me but so does the admission of which poster is my kid......... hold out your hand, that awesome weapon that cannot be taken from you, look at your tormentor with the most sympathy you can find and simply say

"won't you join me?"

Then if they still want to be jerks tell them to talk to that hand and walk away in the supreme knowlege that YOU could have kicked their butts (my specialty) but chose to let them skate another day!!!

:bigwink:

im new here and decided to start in this thread but i think that this is a universal problem with society and i find the biggest problem lies with groups of youths. i have a very short temper and it doesnt take much to throw me over the edge, but i was on my way home from a tainning session and because my home is only about 500 meters away from the dojo i just run home and on my way i was confronted by a group of youths that thought they could take me (iv no idea why i was bigger than all of them and had a black belt wraped around my waist but still) i tried to refrain from fighting but in the end had no choice as they procceded to run along side me and try to trip me up eventually i stopped and the leader or whatever you would call him tryed to size up and head butt me.... long story short his head came of second best and so did the other 4... i have had many fellow students and martial artists iv meet tell me similar stories about how they had to defend them self against a disrespectfull or arogant members of the society namly younger people and general scum but youd think that they would learn , i mean how many times do you have to get hurt to learn taunting a martial artsist is not a good idea

anyway just thought that story might be relevant

Pain is just an excuse to stop made by your mind

This applies to no one on this thread, but maybe he didn't show you respect because we are conditioned in our society not to take martial artists seriously. Any drooling idiot can pay his money and call himself a martial artist, and after one lesson tell everyone he knows that he "knows karate."

In fact, a whole lot of drooling idiots do just that. And an awful lot more martial artists with ranks much higher than yours couldn't fight their way out wet paper sacks. The average street punk has probably stomped the everloving hell out of several people who warned him that they were black belts. He can't be blamed for thinking it's all a joke.

OK, add this to the "I'm so wise" posts...

Teasing comes from jealosy+ignorance.

It's up to you to show respect, not them.

Lead by example.

Show no weakness, be polite, calm and disarming.

Use humor to distract them.

Most battles can be won before they start.
