I wonder if someone might have the insight in this area to help.

I would like to introduce this to my students and I know that the best wood to use is White Pine, but after contacting several companies I am unable to get any and no one seems to know where I can.

Soes anyone know where I can get some in the uk or an alternate wood type to use?

I'm not sure how things work in the UK. But in the US we have home repair (Home Depot, Lowes) stores that sell 1 inch thick planks of pine in almost any length. When I was doing this, I would just buy a plank and cut it. Worked out perfectly. It's important to cut so the grain is going with the break.

Usually get all ours (pine boards) from B&Q, tell them what size you want and they'll cut it. Or sometimes if ordering a lot you can go to a local timber merchants. Think Homebase also sell timber too. Have you tried all the DIY stores?

You can buy pre-cut pine boards from a number of MA supplies companies but its so much cheaper from a DIY store. You won't have to pay shipping and I think they inflate the prices anyway.

Thank you, I did try homebase and the woman I spoke to looked at me as if I had stepped off of a UFO lol.

I tried a few places but I havent tried B & Q, but will take drive tomorrow and ask, its not close but will be worth it if they will help.

I agree regarding the premade ones through suppliers, think they are way too expensive when you are just going to break them, for that reason I would like to keep costs as low as possible.

Thanks again I really appreciate it, if anyone has any other materials that they recommend etc I am always open to suggestions.

I used to just got to the local lumber yard and get some #1 white pine, have them cut them into 12"x12", and go smash some wood.

I would think that any local lumber yard would care your desired board. I usually go to Home Depot and/or Lowes here in the USA. Century Martial Arts Supplies sells boards of varying sizes, but, I'm thinking that this would be a pricey option.

The lumber yards in my area when I spoke to them they said that they didnt stock it due to it not being strong enough and no real request for supply

Still no joy, Homebase and B&Q have said they do not stock pine and will not either. Beginning the think this is a hard task now lol,

I am open to any suggestions though if anyone has any?

Are you asking specifically for white pine instead of just pine? Maybe that's the problem. Its a bit strange that nowhere near you stocks any pine at all when we can just get some from B&Q.
