honoluludesktop Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 (edited) The attached demonstration of Wado principles, contrast itself from Shotokan, the dominant karate style in the world today. At the end of the video, Wado's means of "kime" is perhaps derived from its Jiujitsu roots. Anyone care to share how it is taught in Shito or Goju? Select the video most appropriated to your band width. Edited December 16, 2010 by honoluludesktop
StrangeBacon Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 Entertaining vid but im not sure what it had to do with the chudan zuki in particular, thanks for sharing though! "Get beyond violence, yet learn to understand its ways""Seek peace in every moment, yet be prepared to defend your very being""Does the river dwell on how long it will take to become the ocean..." - Sensei Bruce Paynehttps://www.shinkido.co.uk
honoluludesktop Posted August 11, 2010 Author Posted August 11, 2010 Well, the video opens with chudan zuki:Then goes on to demonstrate Wado's basic striking principles. Sorry about the poor sound quality, but if you turn it up and listen, there is a lot of usefull information.
ptr Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 Very nice, and quite close to our own practice. Karate-Do Shotokai NYC
todome Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 Aside from maybe some of the fist alignment stuff, I fail to see how this contrasts with Shotokan. My sensei's been working on my wobblies like that for years. Never mind front stance, we expect to be able to withstand a smack on the extended fist practicing punching in shizentai. we all have our moments
honoluludesktop Posted December 15, 2010 Author Posted December 15, 2010 (edited) I tried to quote myself, and destroyed this post in the process. Oh well, my response to the following is below it. Edited December 16, 2010 by honoluludesktop
ps1 Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 I'm sorry, how does this contrast itself from shotokan? I don't remember my karate training including anything that says to be stiff and rigid. "It is impossible to make anything foolproof because fools are so ingenius."
honoluludesktop Posted December 16, 2010 Author Posted December 16, 2010 The post was never meant to distinguish one style of karate from another."................ we often make too much out of their differences. I have yet to distinguish between styles in competitive sparring matches, and even between arts in a real fight..............How else can I say it?
todome Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 You could leave out parts about how Wado "further distinguishes it self(sic)" for starters. we all have our moments
