baronbvp Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 ...and back into fighting after too long. I didn't realize how much I missed it. Feels great to train again. It isn't a full-blown boxing class, but more of a learning and light contact aerobic thing at my gym. But I'm enjoying it already and getting to freestyle some kickboxing on the heavy bag after class. Unfortunately, we're not allowed to use the fighting room outside class due to "liability." All that equipment going to waste on the other days I work out.Haven't been on this forum in awhile, either. Good to be back here as well. Only as good as I make myself be, only as bad as I let myself be.Martial arts are like kinetic chess. Your move.
bushido_man96 Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 Its good to see you back, Baron! Its good to see you back to training, too. I have always thought that Boxing would be fun to do, although I would have a tough time with competing, I think learning the techniques would be great, and the conditioning as well. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
wolverine uskf Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 I have a great boxing drill for anyone thats interested, it is a building drill for the heavy bag, that ends up being 1050 punches. It starts with jabs and ends up being a 6 punch combo.

wolverine uskf Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Ok, on the heavy bag, you alternate between left and right stance, and your thowing it as an increasing combo 25 times each.1] 25 left jabs2] 25 right jabs3] 25 1-2 left jab then right strait punch(reverse punch)4] 25 1-2 right jab then left strait punch(reverse punch)5] 25 1-2 left-right then left low hook6] 25 1-2 right-left then right low hook7] 25 1-2 left-right, low hook left, upper cut right8] 25 1-2 right-left, low hook right, upper cut left9] 25 1-2 left-right, low hook left, upper cut right, high hook left10]25 1-2 right-left, low hook right, upper cut left, high hook right11]25 1-2 left-right, low hook left, upper cut right, high hook left, high hook right12]25 1-2 right-left, low hook right, upper cut left, high hook right, high hook leftGive it a try and tell me what you think, if i made it confusing i'm sorry, i'm used to showing it in person, not writing it down.
bushido_man96 Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 I'm confused about the "increasing combo" part. What do you mean by that? https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
Jay Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 I'm confused about the "increasing combo" part. What do you mean by that? Thanks I tried this yesterday and really enjoyed it was hard though. The combinations at the end really flow well and I was getting good power. I think he meant that the length of the combinations increase. So you start of with 1 punch and end up with a combination that has 6.Just realised 1000th post The key to everything is continuity achieved by discipline.
wolverine uskf Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 I wasn't sure how to descibe it, but yes every step adds another punch to the combo going from 1 punch to start and ends up being a 6 punch combo. I'm glad you liked it, i always thought it was a good drill for timing, power, and endurance.
bushido_man96 Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Ok, that makes sense. Thanks. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
