The past is no more; the future is yet to come. Nothing exist except for the here and now. Our grand business is not to see what lies dimly at a distance, but to do what's clearly is clearly at hand...Lets continue to train!

After the test involved you're pretty proud of the electric tape stripes on that brown belt.

Black Belt Sho Dan

You can get your green belt in about a year of hard training. However, it typically at least five years of hard training to become a Sho Dan and you can only test by invite. Other Matsubayashi Ryu systems are a bit different.

The higher you go in the Kyu ranks in our system the slower you advance. I wonder if it is the same where you guys train.

Nearly the same, but we have two blue belts and no purple one.

No distinction on the belts.

At my school, it goes:

White (1st stripe, 2nd stripe, 3rd stripe)

Yellow (1st stripe, 2nd stripe, 3rd stripe)

Orange (1st stripe, 2nd stripe, 3rd stripe)

Purple (1st stripe, 2nd stripe, 3rd stripe)

I'm actually not sure if the stripes continue all the way after purple.
