wildman1717
In a street scenario alot of the rules of judo could get in the way, in many of the submission holds you could easily be eye gouged or bitten, alot of them arent too hard to get out of either if you have a good understanding of bodily mechanics again due to the MA not being designed for those type of scenarios.Im not putting it down at all however, i would love to give it a try it looks a great deal of fun and even with my above points i certainly wouldnt want to fight a good judoka in the street All styles would have to adapt to the street scenario, and I mean all styles. There isn't one perfect style out there.
kozushi
Judo and karate both take advantage of the enemy's clothing - a very smart strategy. Both judo and karate work in MMA, but they work even better in real fights. If you are a karateka fighting a judoka, you have one chance to get a killer strike in. If it lands, and you have done your homework on the makiwara and all, you stand a good chance of winning. If it doesn't land, then you will be grabbed and thrown onto the ground where you will be beaten senseless or crushed. The two martial arts complement each other well. The famous Kimura was an expert at both. 2010: Budokan Judo Senior (18yrs+) Champion. Budokan Masters Champion. 2009: Senior International Cup Judo Champion. Copa Ontario BJJ Champion. Central East Region Master's Shiai Judo Champion. 2008: Joslin's Canadian Open BJJ Champion.
Ueshirokarate
Saweeeet! I love judo! Toss someone like that in the street and it's "Game over man!"Absolutely!! Concrete and the like doesn't give, and something has to give, namely our body. I also agree with this. I also agree that there is no "ultimate" martial art. BJJ and Muay Thai seem to have taken over the martial arts world to some extent due to the UFC. While some other styles have "had their day" in the ring if you will, these styles just seem to dominate. But the UFC really isn't realistic and your points about judo throws is just one illustration as to why. A simple deashi harai or seoi otoshi onto pavement and game over. Karate and many other styles also contains these types of throws. Matsubayashi RyuCMMACC (Certified Mixed Martial Arts Conditioning Coach)
