DWx
First off, JiuJitsuNation, I have a lot of respect for you. Obviously you know a hell of a lot and have years and years of experience. I don't think anyone on here doubts this.TBH I would actually love to learn BJJ, just waiting for someone to open up a good school round here I think isshinryu5toforever's post was spot on for me. If anything irritates me about BJJ its the few who have had a little bit of training in it and then start going on about how its the best and everything else is a waste of time. But I guess that's true for any style. I know a number of TKD people who think they're the best and that every other style is pathetic and useless. Dobie1979
I train at a fairly traditional karate school. I would love to compliment my training with some BJJ or Judo. Unfortunately, there are not any schools that are close to me.I think BJJ gets a bad rep is when I'm surfing Youtube looking for Katas. You see comments on them that a person that pratices BJJ would annihilate anyone that is doind the Kata. (No matter the expereince of the person doing the Kata)I don't get mad, but I do roll my eyes...There is my two cents worth..Peace out!

The comments on the bottom of youtube. Man I get trash talked by little kids on xbox! lolLet me also say that this topic was not the result of something I've experienced here. Just curiosity and the fact I know there is a level of tension and profiling that goes on. Human nature. https://www.1jiujitsunation.com
ninjanurse
I have studied several different styles, including some BJJ, and while I do have my favorites I respect each style and its players equally. I agree that there are those who ego driven and give their style a bad name...unfortunately this is not unique to BJJ by any means. Friend told me that even the Gracie father had to step in on one problem at a local school. Kudoki Kung-Fu and Ku Jutsu in Charlotte, NC
sensei8
My earlier post in this thread contained an edited quote of Bruce Lee by Freewebs..."There is only one type of body, 2 arms, 2 legs, etc that make up the human body. Therefore, there can only be one style of fighting. If the other guy had 4 arms and 2 legs, there might have to be a different one. Forget the belief that one style is better than the other, the point of someone that does not just believe in tradition, but actually wants to know how to fight is to take what you need from every martial art and incorporate it into your own. Make it effective and very powerful, but don't worry if you are taking moves from many different arts, that is a good thing."After reading this edited version of a Bruce Lee quote, I feel that, although it brings the message across to the reader, but, it misses the Bruce Lee flavor. Here's the unedited version of that Bruce Lee quote, which may or may not add that forementioned flavor..."You see, actually I do not teach Karate, because I do not believe in styles anymore, I mean, I do not believe that there is such thing as like Chinese way of fighting or Japanese way of fighting, or whatever way of fighting because, unless a human being has 3 arms and 4 legs, we will have a different form of fighting. But, basically we only have two hands and two feet. So, styles tend to not only separate man, you know, because they have their own doctrines, and then the doctrines became the gospel truth, you know, that you cannot change, you know, and, but if you don't have styles, but, if you just say, well, here I am, you know, as a human being, how can I express myself? Totally and completely! Now, that way, you won't create a style, because style is a crystallization, you know, I mean, that way it's a process of continuing growth."~Bruce Lee: The Lost Interview [index at 6:39 - 7:42]So, whether one practices BJJ, Judo, Karate, Kung-Fu, Tae Kwon Do, Ninjitsu, Aikido, or any of the literal hundreds upon hundreds upon thousands of the known and unknown styles of the martial arts, it's not about the style, but, it's about the process of continuing growth within the martial artist.Every growth must have a beginning, aka, our core style, but then, as knowledge is discovered, growth doesn't end, no, it continues unabated and unrestricted. **Proof is on the floor!!! bushido_man96
I don't get annoyed by BJJ. Mouthy people are always annoying, but you can find them anywhere. I think that BJJ has a lot of good things to offer. Those who run it down likely don't have any experience with it, and those BJJers that run down other styles likely don't have much experience with them. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
Akikazeninja
I am probably gonna touch a lot of subjects so sorry haha So to start off I dont think its all BJJ I have a friend in XMA and he thinks he could beat my style Ijust nod my head and walk away I just think that it is the people with big egos and you find those in every martial art so there is that secondly I train in a very traditional martial art (go on youtube and type in hatsumi sensei he is the grandmaster of my MA and is very wise) and one very wise thing my sensei told me was to never bash another MA no matter how much I dont like the way they conduct themselves never bash another MA because it makes you look bad so I think people that bash BJJ are probably just speaking on the moment and they dont even know what they are talking about because I love training in traditional jujutsu and bjj cant be far off so more power to your MA and dont let haters trash your your MA The path leading to anger and conflict is wide and easy to travel the path leading to self control and discipline is narrow and difficult
Nevinyrral
I think lots of people are annoyed by bjj because recently its almost everywhere and everyone is talking about it. But for me it's just natural. For example in Poland not so long ago you wouldnt hear anything about muay thai, but after a few movis and tv shows about it, everyone wants to practice it. So it's the same with bjj. And mayby after few years something else would be more 'cool' A style is just a name.
