Hpkid0ist
Special news for all the Hapkidoist out there. Did you know that Jackie Chan's only actual formal martial arts training is in Hapkido under Jin Pal Kim. He is like a 5 th dan. Gota love it. He does have some Kung Fu training from the Peiking Opera house, but hapkido is his only formal training. He said it not me. 2nd Dan Hap Ki Do: What we do in life echos for an eternity! spinninggumby
Yup, that's where he gets all his acrobatic maneuvers and kicks. His peer and childhood training partner Sammo loves the jumping double drop kick, which is supposedly a hapkido-specific maneuver but who am I to argue. I am not very informed about hapkido but I have heard that it is one of the most well-rounded styles out there, catering to practical application as well as the so-called 'appeal' of a martial art that everyone looks for. ckdstudent
I thought Jackie was trained as an acrobat more than as a martial artist? ---------Pil SungJimmy B
spinninggumby
Yea, he definitely has much more background in acrobatics and theater. But if you are talking about pure formal martial arts training, he had hapkido training more than any other type of martial arts training. Supposedly, his 10 years (strenuous '12+ hour' regimens nevertheless) at the Peking Opera would not really count as official m/a training. Karateka_latino
Yes, I agree. Peking Opera School used to teach Kung fu for Stage performance, not as a combat art for self defense per se. In the Jackies Bios and interviews that i have read says that he trained in Pak Mei kung fu, Wing Chun, Karate, Boxing, etc.. But that the only formal style that he studied and archived ranks was in Hapkido.
