What floor material does your karate school have?

Puzzle pad mats at one place. Stretched smooth canvas at the other (with some cushion sammiched in-between the layers). Forget those hard surfaces -- too hard on the joints!!!

I have gymnastics flooring at my dojang...2" hard foam covered with carpet. Requires at bit more effort to balance as it gives but is nice for falling.

We have good old fashioned commercial carpet. Undernreath I'd imagine 4" poured concrete floor. We don't do too many throws, so its not that bad. My feet though, have become callous from the carpet. (turning ect...)

Tatami style zebra mats

Very nice!

The Shindokan Hombu is 100% hardwood floors through-out, but, in the smaller dojo, the floor is Swain 1.5" Grappling Mats where we practice/teach, you guessed it...grappling.

:)

**Proof is on the floor!!!

I'd say we have really traditional flooring.

Dirt, grass, gravel, sand, and a little horse manure!

Sometimes the flooring is gravel road.

Sometimes it's asphalt. Depends on where our dojo is for the day...

I have been attacked on the street. I've never been attacked on a mat.

Our dojo is a school hall and due to the growing popularity with the school they have upgraded the floor to a quality Wood style vinyl. It's great. You can really glide across it and it is always immaculate. I have trained on hard wood and it looks great but they make some quality vinyls now and I prefer training on that.
