I generally call any instructor "Sen" its well accepted in our style and it feels odd calling them by their names, if there's more than one in the room or im trying to get ones attention i'll say ____-san.

in the dojo we all call our instructor sensei, after 1 month of me attending karate i bumped into my sensei at the supermarket and automatically said hi sensei, she asked to be called by her first name outside the dojo, unless we were representing the karate club

in the dojo its sensei or sempai depending on who your talking to but outside the dojo its by their first names.

the only exception is takahashi and he is to be called shihan or shihan takahashi at all times. for those of you that dont know who he is; he is an 8th dan chief instructor of TSKF and is highly respected.

What I mean is why not just being able to talk to an instructor like he is just anyone else out in the world, without a title or anything like that.
