So i am wondering how much padding you use whenever you spar.

If you wear different amounts of padding different days just respond to whichever one you wear most. Please feel free to post and describe more specifically what you use.

I am very curious about different arts and practices used by different people. This thread is to expand my mind... and maybe your's too :karate:

I typically spar with crappy open-faced karate headgear, shin and instep guards, a cup, a mouthpiece, and either Shooto gloves or sixteen-ounce boxing gloves depending on what we're doing. I'm upgrading to decent boxing headgear once it ships.

For kickboxing I use:

- Always: Thai boxing gloves 12oz, thai shin pads, mouthguard.

- Sometimes: Headgear (boxing type, leather) Torso protector (TKD)

FMA: - Helmet, protective poncho, elbow and underarmprotector, gloves

- Sometimes: Helmet, gloves

I spar using gloves & those shin/foot guard pads. I cannot wear that bulky foam foot gear… those things always twist or my toes get caught up in the bottom straps.

Gloves and Chest protection. Sometimes shin pads depending on what theme I go with.

It really depends on what I'm working. But it's a great question.

For basic low contact controlled sparring it's goves (anywhere from MMA to boxing to kempo) and a mouthpiece always. I usually go shin gear here as well, if I don't, it's on at then next step for sure.

Once the contact goes up more, I go to the headgear. If I'm only working boxing, I'll use that. If knees and elbows are flying, I'll used caged.

I'll optionally get on knee and elbow pads here. If we're slining weapons, certainly.

I'll only get body armor on if it's a full on, high contact, self Blauer High Gear helmet is a must. You can crank on it pretty good with stirkes and it's got eye protection that will keep bb's out of your sockets. They say it will stand up to simunition rounds, but I've never trialed it.

All that being said, the most fequent I use is gloves, shin, mouthpiece.

Wasn't sure which bit in the poll fit me but, I wear:

Mouthguard, foot pads, shin pads, and a pair of gloves. Sometimes wear headguard (open-faced) but only when the contact is really upped or the floor is hard.
