kamahlthedruid Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 My old judo sensei was a student of Kyuzo Mifune. He promised his master that he would never teach judo striking ever again. Is there any old footage of atemi waza on youtube? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKuMITjSeog here is a new video of atemi waza, but I don't know if its authentic judo atemi waza.
Toptomcat Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 Meaningful practice of atemi waza was excised from the judo curriculum so early and so completely that I suspect judo doesn't have any unique atemi of its own: any atemi it possessed in the early stages would be strictly derivative of the koryu jujutsu systems judo was distilled from.

It starts on page 136. "It is impossible to make anything foolproof because fools are so ingenius."
kamahlthedruid Posted May 7, 2010 Author Posted May 7, 2010 I think master mifune studied aikido because i saw a video of him doing some aikido like defenses against weapons and there was some atemi waza in the video too.
Kuma Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Kano did some cross-training with some karateka too I think. It seems like virtually all the techniques in the Kodokan Judo manual are derived from karate.
