hey

some websites say that a makiwara shouldnt be used by kids becuase it could damage your growth plates?

i am 13 and i want to know if i should or shouldnt use one??

I wouldn't use one until you're done growing (which for guys is around 20-22). But if you're just going off websites, you shouldn't use one anyway. You need someone to show you in person how to use it properly or else you'll hurt yourself no matter what age you are.

Yeah thats the biggest problem with the board. If not shown the correct way most think its a padded punching board and nothing more.

The canvas one that I use will leave ones knuckles bleeding even doing it right. I use it in general to condition my hands and bottom of feet. I try and not hit too hard but sometimes I forget and start looking down and see I busted the skin.

here's what i wrote in the other thread.

Plus I've been using the makiwara board since I was 15. My teacher showed me how to properly execute on it and besides the bloody knuckles I've never had any other problems.

Makiwara training is already pretty hazardous, I would not suggest doing it, but if you really have the urge to only strike it a couple times each day.
