AustinG010 Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 mine would have to be Heian Nidan, what's yours?
dave_pfc Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 Unsu at the moment but I've got about 15 more black belt kata's to learn
Blade96 Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 Same, Heian Nidan Some people regard discipline as a chore. For me it is a kind of order that sets me free to fly.You don't have to blow out someone else's candle in order to let your own flame shine.
Lupin1 Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 I don't know very many right now, but so far my favorite is our variation on Ananku from Shorin Ryu. I most like it because that's the kata I'm best at. I did it in a competition when I was younger so I worked it and worked it and worked it and so when I was older I had so much muscle memory with the thing I barely had to do anything to relearn it and it's still my best kata. Plus I find a lot of moves in it that are very affective and they're some of my favorite to use in partner drills.
still kicking Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 Probably Seipai at the moment, but we have so many kata it is hard to choose just one. I also love Bassai Dai, and one thing I think is funny, we also practice Bassai Syo (Sho) and Matsamura ha Bassai, and I really don't care for them very much. I'm not really sure why I love one kata over another -- I'll have to think about it more.
KarateGeorge Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 Bassai Dai is my favorite kata (though not my best one. )
Laurentina Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 I love Heian Nidan, it made me win many competitions when I was green belt Now that Im blue belt Im more focused on Heian Yondan but my favorite is still Heian Nidan Karate Shotokan brown belt (2nd kyu) // Judo black belt (1st dan)
Blade96 Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 speaking of competitions I very want to win a gold medal with heian nidan, just as I had with heian shodan and with every kata I learn thereafter.....I just ADORE Kata! Some people regard discipline as a chore. For me it is a kind of order that sets me free to fly.You don't have to blow out someone else's candle in order to let your own flame shine.
sensei8 Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 Wankan! A misunderstood kata, imho, even by high dan ranks.Btw, if those of you here love Heian Nidan, wait until you do Heian Yondan because you'll love it more than Heian Nidan. **Proof is on the floor!!!
