I don't know if this is still going on, but there was a time when the Chicago White Sox were being sponsored by 7-11 and part of the promotion was starting home games at 7:11 pm. 1
KarateKen Posted October 23 Posted October 23 Former Dodgers pitcher Fernando Valenzuela has passed away. He was 63. I'm sure you will hear more about this during game one of the World Series.

I'm sure you will hear more about this during game one of the World Series. Very sad news both in and out of MLB. Before I was a Yankee fan, I was a Dodgers fan; blue through and through. Being raised in the San Fernando Valley, a part of Los Angeles County, I was a big-time fan of the Dodgers. My fondest memories bac then was watching Valenzuela on the mound, in particular whenever the Dodgers faced the Yankees, especially in the World Series of 1981 where the Dodgers won the WS in 4-2 games. Valenzuela had an unhittable screwball which frustrated batters to no end, and to add misery to it all, it was said once by famed TV and Radio Announcer, Vin Scully, that Valenzuela had 3 different ways of throwing his screwball. I distinctly remember Valenzuela's look-up-to-the-heavens with his eyes rolled back before each pitch. Who was Valenzuela's interpreter?? Dodgers' manager, Tommy Lasorda, no less. Game 3 of the 1981 WS between the Dodgers and the Yankees was Fernando Valenzuela’s most impressive performance when he gave up 9 hits and 7 walks as he blasted out a 147-pitch complete game victory. He's the GOAT!! Long live Fernandomania. His ERA in 1981 was a minuscule 0.50. Valenzuela earned in 1981 the National League Rookie of the Year and Cy Young Awards. He was the only player ever to win both in the same year. My sincerest condolences go out to his family, friends, Dodgers Organization, and his countless numbers of fans worldwide; RIP 34...RIP El Toro!! sensei8 Posted October 26 Author Posted October 26 First ever Walk-Off Grandslam Home Run in World Series history!! By whom?? Freeman of the Dodgers!! Dodgers 6 and Yankees 3 Dodgers lead the WS 1-0 Yankees lead game #1 to in the top of the 10th…2 outs…runners at 1st and 2nd bases…Yankees intentionally walk the Dodgers…load the bases…WHY?? Makes no sense to me at all!! Game over!! Both teams had 1 error each!! However, the Yankees one error cost them a run that tied the game 2-2 for in the bottom of the 8th, with Ohtani coming to home plate from 3rd base!! GO YANKEES!! **Proof is on the floor!!!
sensei8 Posted October 28 Author Posted October 28 Yankees lost to the hosting Dodgers in game #3: Yankees 2 and Dodgers 4. Yankees will now host the Dodgers in games 3-5. Imho, the Yankees have their backs against the wall, especially how the Dodgers are playing and how the Yankees are NOT playing. Yankee bats are so-so, but Judge's bat is stone cold. Hot bat in the regular season, then comes the playoffs into the WS and Judge has become a strikeout king. On other thing, Boone has to make better moves and not drag his feet because when he hiccups in making a move, the Yankees start falling apart on both the offense and defense. Game 3 tonight at Yankee Stadium with first pitch at 5:08pm, pacific time. Clarke Schmidt (5-5, 2.85 ERA) is scheduled to pitch for New York against fellow right-hander Walker Buehler (1-6, 5.38 ERA), who makes his Yankee Stadium debut. Do I watch or not?? I'm like a cat on a hot tin roof with anticipation of its final outcome. Patrick, now that you moved to LA, you still a Yankee fan or have you changed pinstripes for Dodger Blue?? Have you been to or planning to go to the World Series at either venue?? GO YANKEES!! **Proof is on the floor!!!
KarateKen Posted October 28 Posted October 28 I'm seeing a lot more Yankees and Dodgers gear being worn around town this weekend. I wonder why.........
sensei8 Posted October 29 Author Posted October 29 ... Games 1 and 2 and 3 of the 2024 World Series belongs solely to the Dodgers. My Yankees hat is tipped to the Dodgers in complete respect. Game 4 of the 2024 World Series is today at 5:08pm, pacific time, at Yankee Stadium. Dodgers will have on the mound RHP Casparius (2-0, 2.16 ERA) and the Yankees will have on the mound RHP Gil (15-7, 3.50 ERA). Thus far, the Yankees bats have suffered from a severe case of frost bite...of the worse kind. On the other hand, the Dodgers' batters require asbestos hitting gloves in order to hold onto their sizzling bats. The odds are stacked up against the Yankees in capturing their 28th World Series. Deservingly so, the facts thus far are undeniable. Speaking about facts... *No MLB team has overcome a 3-0 deficit to win the WS, even though 4 teams have won two straight games to force a game 6, and two teams forced a game 7. *Even though this fact is not about a comeback in the WS, the Red Sox battled back from a 3-0 deficit in the 2004 ALCS. After all of the dust settled, the Red Sox won their first WS title in 86 years. *Have the Yankees ever been swept in the WS? Yes...3 times. Today might be their 4th time for being swept in the WS. This World Series for the Yankees have been disastrous while on the other hand, the World Series for the Dodgers has been nothing short of triumphant. GO YANKEES!! **Proof is on the floor!!!

sensei8 Posted October 30 Author Posted October 30 Quote They are not out yet, they live to see game five after winning 11-4 Tuesday night. I see that. So, it takes having the Yankees' backs against the wall and facing losing the WS. Not enough. My Yankees STILL have to face the 2024 Dodgers and win EVERY game. Tough mission...near impossible mission. I'm not saying that my Yankees don't have the talent to face mission impossible, because the Yankees have the talent just not the hot bats...I'm not letting last night's hot bats of the Yankees relax my gut feelings. On last thing...every single time that Freeman is up to bat...WALK HIM INTENTIONALLY!! Freeman might be just lucky but there's no reason to push our luck against his burning hot bat. GO YANKEES!! **Proof is on the floor!!!
