KarateKen Posted February 8 Posted February 8 In another questionable move by Major League Baseball, A's owner John Fisher has been promoted to the Executive Committee. Fisher has been public enemy #1 in Oakland for years, and I can't remember a time an owner was so unanimously hated by fans all across their own sport, at least not since Art Modell moved the Browns 30 years ago. As if Fisher's behavior in Oakland was not repulsive enough, now reports are that the Las Vegas stadium will go 250 million dollars over the original budget. The A's will be on the hook for that extra money, not the taxpayers, who are already getting stuck with paying almost 400 million dollars for the stadium. Sheesh.
sensei8 Posted February 14 Author Posted February 14 (edited) Yankees seem to be extending Manager Cashman’s contract; news expected soon. I’m on the fence with this one because imho he made some real bad calls during the World Series against the Dodgers. I was looking over the Yankees February transactions and it seems that the Yankees are trying to improve their pitching staff, which they need to. Yankee pitcher Marcus Stroman missed several workouts. Why?? He’s rejecting his role as a relief pitcher. Why?? He believes he’s a starting pitcher. GO YANKEES!! About four years ago Patrick Mahomes signed the largest contract in sports history, and now he is not even in the top ten highest paid quarterbacks! Each year the contracts will get larger as long as the sports money keeps coming in. would be interesting to see the actual amount that Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo were getting paid at their peaks. There are rumours that Messi was actually on £100m a year (the Barcelona books were apparently very very messy). Mbappe did get offered a billion pound contract to play in Saudi though a few years ago and turned it down
KarateKen Posted February 24 Posted February 24 MLB and ESPN will end their contract agreement following the 2025 season. This includes TV, radio, and streaming. The agreement to split ways was mutual, according to reports. MLB has been broadcast on ESPN since 1990.
KarateKen Posted March 2 Posted March 2 MLB considering allowing Pete Rose to be eligible for the Hall of Fame. Manfred is reviewing a petition by Rose's family to have him reinstated. Rose was given a lifetime ban by MLB in 1989 because he was betting on baseball, but with his passing in 2024 there may be an interest in putting him into the Hall of Fame. Rose is the all-time leader in hits and games played. He has never appeared on a Hall of Fame ballot.
sensei8 Posted Monday at 03:15 PM Author Posted Monday at 03:15 PM (edited) Interesting!! If, and “if” is a big word, MLB does allow Pete Rose on a HOF Ballot, and makes it into the HOF, then perhaps MLB needs to do the same for the 1920 Black Sox’s 8 players, especially Shoeless Joe Jackson. There is the 1991 Pete Rose Rule…A permanent ban from baseball is grounds for not being eligible for the Hall of Fame Edited Monday at 03:28 PM by sensei8 **Proof is on the floor!!!
DarthPenguin Posted Tuesday at 10:17 AM Posted Tuesday at 10:17 AM As a non American (so i wasn't exposed to the mythos around certain sports growing up) i have always found some of the rules in the baseball hall of fame to be a little funny. Personally, since pretty much everyone accepts that Rose never bet against himself or his team (And there were no allegations - that i am aware of - that he tried to get opponents to underperform) i don't see why he can't be allowed in now. I have always found the outcry against the 'steroid players' to be a little silly based on some of the players who are in. I have always thought it should be either all proven cheaters out or look at eras etc : there are several players in the hall that openly admitted to corking their bats; taking 'greenies' (how is this not performance enhancing since it let them play better); greasing the balls etc. so i don't see how that is fundamentally different to some players taking steroids (since players on both sides of the ball did so an argument could be made that they may 'net off'). From the little i know about the Black Sox scandal several of the players should be in as they didn't cheat and actually had an excellent series! 1
bushido_man96 Posted Friday at 03:01 PM Posted Friday at 03:01 PM It's likely the decision of whether he gets in or not will come down to the sports writers that hold the votes. Some of them are rather sanctimonious and could likely hold Rose out of the Hall. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
