Does anyone use a makiwara that they built themselves, traditional style.

I'm currently building a traditional cedar wood makiwara, complete with real rolled straw and rope pad. The pad is already done - suprisingly that was the cheapest and easiest part. I also have material to make a foam and vinyl pad.

I'm still finishing off the shape of the wood, filing away to get the desired flex (and hide all the rough saw marks still left).

It is going to mount on a wooden platform using a metal bracket, because I have no yard to bury a post in. I've built a bracket but I'm not sure how durable it will prove once in action...

Anyone else got any good/bad makiwara stories.

There is a thread called Makiwari work that I just brought back up. It includes links to building them and other things. So I am going to close this one and say please look at the other link.
