coltmakai Posted July 21, 2002 Posted July 21, 2002 What is a Kimura? Where can i see a pic, or discription.
three60roundhouse Posted July 21, 2002 Posted July 21, 2002 Ok, I will try to explain the kimura from the guard position. You have your opponent in your closed guard, their hands are on the floor at your sides. In other words, they are based out low in your guard. You grab one of their wrists with the hand of yours on the same side of the wrist you've just grabbed. Sit up. The other hand wraps around the top of their arm and grabs your own wrist. Lay back down, moving your head out to the side of the arm being attacked. Pull their arm towards their head. The opponent should submit from the pressure on his shoulder. 1st dan Tae Kwon DoYellow Belt Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu16 Years OldGirls kick butt!
three60roundhouse Posted July 21, 2002 Posted July 21, 2002 As soon as I posted this I found this cool site. Here's a detailed and probably easier to follow description of the kimura. http://www.geocities.com/greg123455/gi_kimora_guard.html This move is also workable from the north-south position, but is extremely hard to explain. 1st dan Tae Kwon DoYellow Belt Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu16 Years OldGirls kick butt!
Tobias_Reece Posted July 22, 2002 Posted July 22, 2002 Is this any relation between the Kimura guard and Kimura the judo man? three60roundhouse Posted July 22, 2002 Posted July 22, 2002 Kimura was one of the greatest judokas in history, but I think his "signature move" was osoto gari...perhaps the shoulder lock was named the kimura out of tribute. Perhaps Kimura did make up the move. I am not sure. 1st dan Tae Kwon DoYellow Belt Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu16 Years OldGirls kick butt!

K4j4 S1n1s Posted July 23, 2002 Posted July 23, 2002 The Brazilians named the lock the "Kimura" because it was the lock that Kimura used to defeat Helio Gracie in their epic fight. Kimura was quite impressed with Helio & his BJJ though. Impressed enough to invite him to the Budokan to teach! The move can also be done from these positions (I'm sure there are more but these are the ones that I know) From Side mount From North and south From the scarf hold (using your legs) From the guard using your legs (called omaplata) K4J4 [ This Message was edited by: K4j4 S1n1s on 2002-07-22 20:07 ]
