Lupin1 Posted December 6, 2010 Share Posted December 6, 2010 Some guy in my class made everyone these small wooden dowels from broom handles. I tried to make my own, but it was too small. They stick out just a few centimeters from each side of your hand and he drilled a hole in the center for us to wrap twine around them to give a grip. They're about the size of a roll of quarters, which the guy said in the Marines they used to bring with them to bars to use as weapons. Apparently they're based off of some piece of fishing equipment people used as weapons in Okinawa. We trained with them for a few weeks and I still have mine sitting on my bedside table. It's a Gerber machete that costs about $18.00 new, and a generic "farm handle" that I picked up for $15.00 I believe. I removed the handle from the machete, did a little hand machining on the metal end cap of the handle, and ran 2 through it and the blade base. I attached a sorry looking graduation tassel for good measure.
