And if you want to get into traditional matters it DOES MATTER.Traditionally NOT classically. It is proper to be awarded a silk or satin belt. As this is a higher quality belt, and it is set to represent a major part of your martial art life. In some arts the final belt is red , but if this is the case. You will be a black belt from shodan to judan. So quality if sufficient. When you send your kids on the bus to school with their lunch do you give them a small apple or a big apple to hold them over?...And they are only gone for at the most 7 hours. This is a life long journey.Classically, you would just get a plain cotton, one, or whatever was on hand or cheap at the time. Unless it was feasible to get a silk or satin obi.
