thaiboxerken Posted August 28, 2001 Posted August 28, 2001 I think the heavy bag represents a person more than a board does. Plus.. you break the board.. then you have to go find another, set it up and break again. With a heavy bag you can just keep on striking. I really don't see a good training method in breaking inanimate objects. Just kick 'em, they'll understand.- Me Apprentice Instructor under Guro Inosanto in Jun Fan Gung Fu and Filipinno Martial arts.Certified Instructor of Frank Cucci's Linxx system of martial arts.

Lars Posted September 7, 2001 Posted September 7, 2001 About the breakdancing.... Iv'e done a bit breakdancing when performing gymnastics. One of them was the ariel cartwheel (cartwheel without hands). I think combing gymnastics and breakdance is very fun, and it really impresses people! Unfortunately I only had that trainer for a year and he had to moved, so I couldn't improve and learn more breackdancing skills... But I did learn quite a lot in that year... Lars Østergaard
taezee Posted September 7, 2001 Posted September 7, 2001 who would you rather have hit you the guy who just broke 12 cinder blocks or the guy who just barely got through three pine boards?as for that old retort boards dont hit back..neither will you ... when you get hit with on of these blows..much less remember your own name Javier l Rosario instructor taekwondo/hapkidounder master Atef s Himaya"whenever youre lazy enough not to train .someone, somewhere is training very hard to kick your *"
thaiboxerken Posted September 9, 2001 Posted September 9, 2001 12 cinder blocks or 3 boards. Doesn't matter. Inanimate objects are not like people. Boards not only don't hit back, but they don't move either. Breaking boards has nothing to do with self-defense and fighting. Just kick 'em, they'll understand.- Me Apprentice Instructor under Guro Inosanto in Jun Fan Gung Fu and Filipinno Martial arts.Certified Instructor of Frank Cucci's Linxx system of martial arts.

Iron Arahat Posted September 9, 2001 Posted September 9, 2001 I think breaking and destruction are useful for a couple reasons. One being able to exert a great deal of force into a technique. Second is getting past the fear of hurting one's self. I know alot of people when they first start breaking, especially objects like bricks they are fearful of breaking their hand, legs, etc. Martial Arts School http://www.shaolinwushu.cahttp://www.liveyyc.comCalgary Photographer: http://www.jdirom.com
